Petition

Do not scrap trial by jury

Rejected 11 signatures

What the petition asks

Several reports indicate the Justice Secretary intends to restrict trial by jury to only rape, murder and manslaughter. This is fundamentally incompatible with our justice system, would lead to more miscarriages of justice and should be roundly rejected.
The right to a trial by one’s peers when accused of any serious offence is a cornerstone of the justice system which Britain has pioneered for centuries. No backlog can justify its restriction.
