Review overtime taxation to make it fairer for UK workers

Closed 109 signatures

What the petition asks

Many work overtime out of financial need, to make ends meet and do not do it always by choice, as it can reduce family time. Fairer overtime taxation could support workers, encourage extra hours in essential sectors, and help overstretched teams.
We ask the Government to launch a review into making overtime taxation fairer, as fairer taxation could reward personal sacrifice, reduce financial stress, boost the economy, and encourage staff to do extra in essential sectors like healthcare, and social. Clear eligibility rules could also ensure fairness.

Overtime is usually taken because extra income is needed and, in some cases, is imperative for basic needs. This can often be at the cost of stress, fatigue, and family time. Taxing overtime at the same rate as regular pay can reduce money that is relied on.
