Petition

Protect the right to jury trials for all eligible criminal offences

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Trial by jury is a constitutional safeguard that defends our rights and limits government power. The rule of law depends on it. Parliament must reject any plan to weaken jury trials and require the Government to protect them in full.
Reports of plans to restrict jury trials threaten a core constitutional safeguard. Trial by jury protects the rule of law, limits state power and keeps justice in the hands of the people. Removing it would dismantle a centuries old protection and weaken public confidence. The backlog comes from years of under funding, not juries. Parliament must act now to defend this essential right.
