Stop the EV Pay-Per-Mile Tax

What the petition asks
Cancel the planned pay-per-mile road tax for electric vehicles. We want to stop unfair double-taxing of drivers who already pay a premium VED surcharge on family-sized EVs and hybrids.
Families choosing electric or hybrid vehicles are often paying more upfront for cleaner transport. These cars often lose value faster than petrol and diesel, meaning that ownership can be more costly. With a VED surcharge on most family EVs over £40,000, we believe a new pay-per-mile tax from 2028 would unfairly charge people twice for going green.
This could discourage the switch to cleaner vehicles and penalise drivers who are supporting the UK’s environmental goals.
