What the petition asks
Jury trials are a fundamental part of a fair justice system and protect defendants’ rights. Recent proposals to replace many jury trials with judge-only trials endanger centuries-old legal protections and risk miscarriages of justice.
Record-high court backlogs should be addressed by improving court funding and resources — not by eroding the right to a jury trial. Removing or limiting jury trials may disproportionately affect vulnerable groups, reduce public confidence in justice, and undermine transparency and fairness.
