What the petition asks
We want an open and honest debate about this silent killer which we feel has been ignored in the sector. We want heightened public awareness, as we believe current legislation is not fit for purpose.
Construction workers help build nations’ futures, but many are being buried too soon, with more than one worker taking their own life everyday – we want help and change.
According to 2021 ONS stats, 507 construction workers took their own lives. The reasons are complex, but we feel the outcome is simple: we believe that without proper government intervention and reigniting the sector, nothing will change. Stigma and silence keep too many from seeking help and the crisis grows ever deadlier. We want the Government to acknowledge this issue and set about real change. We want to explore new ways to reduce depression and stress which sadly can lead to suicide.
