Increase driving test fees to £85 to pay for more examiners to clear backlog

What the petition asks
We think by increasing the driving test fee to £85 from £62 (weekday) / £75 (evening, weekend, bank holiday), government could potentially raise millions, train an extra 300 examiners and increase salaries by £8000 per annum to make the job more lucrative from the current starting salary of £29,000.
Currently the average wait time for a driving test is 5 months and government now predicts that the 7 weeks wait time won’t happen until 2027. By increasing the test fee to £85 this could potentially pay for another 300 examiners and also increase the starting salary to £36k, making the career more lucrative thus tackling the persistent backlog problem facing people waiting for a driving test.
