Petition

Provide adequate funding to support British inland waterways

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Given that another breach of a canal has happened on the Llangollen canal today, the UK government should provide adequate funding to maintain and enhance the inland waterways to support canal liveaboarda, canal users, tow path users and support and increase mental, physical and emotional health.
Funding to the Canal and River Trust has decreased massively over the previous few years yet the costs are increasing as a lot of the inland waterways are centuries old. If this was a physical building or highway, more would be done to maintain it so the same should be demanded of the government for the canals and navigable rivers of Britain.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

The Government has announced an additional £6.5 million of investment in the canal network. You can read more here: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/iconic-canals-to-be-better-protected-with-65-million-investment

You could start a new petition calling for a further increase to funding for inland waterways if that is what you would like to see, including by what amount you would like funding to increase.
