What the petition asks
In London, private tenants may pay around £2,500 per month for a three-bedroom home, compared to around £700 for council housing. To address this gap, the Government should fund increases to the Local Housing Allowance annually and rent freezes.
We believe Local Housing Allowance (LHA) should increase annually in line with inflation, and private rents should be frozen. Many people cannot access social or council housing due to long waiting lists, leaving private renters with no choice.
In London, council tenants may pay around £700 per month for a three-bedroom home, while private renters could pay about £2,500 for the same property. We feel this is unfair and places severe financial pressure on private renters, and that the Government should fund LHA increases and rent freezes.
