What the petition asks
To Activate the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol (SWEP) simultaneously with other weather safety measures, such as gritting roads, Additionally, I call for reforms in housing benefit policies so that payments are made directly to accommodations in advance
To ensure the most vulnerable homeless individuals are protected from extreme weather conditions like frost, fog, snow, rain, wind. preventing homeless individuals from being left without shelter due to delayed or withheld benefits. It is essential to review & amend existing legislation to guarantee equitable access to basic care & shelter for all, thereby eradicating homelessness through compassionate & humane policies that prioritise the safety, health, dignity of every person in our community
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
SWEP is a matter for local authority action, and doesn't fall into central government or parliamentary responsibility.
