What the petition asks
We call on the Government to reverse the decision to freeze the Plan 2 student loan repayment threshold at £29,385 for three years from April 2027, and to restore annual uprating in line with inflation to protect fair, income-contingent repayment.
Freezing the Plan 2 repayment threshold at £29,385 from April 2027 for three years will increase repayments for millions of graduates. As wages rise, more people will be pulled into repayment and others will repay more each month. This effectively raises the cost of student loans without transparent debate and changes the real terms of borrowing after students have already graduated. The threshold should rise with inflation to ensure fairness and predictability.
