Petition
Change child sexual assault laws to minimum of 15 years
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
For the minimum sentence of child sexual assault to change to 15 years over all categories. Only in grey areas should there be a reduction in the sentence for a child sex offender.
Child sexual assault remains one of the most heinous crimes, leaving indelible marks not only on the victims but also on their families and communities. Despite the severity of this crime, existing legislation fails to adequately reflect the lifelong consequences endured by survivors. Current sentences for perpetrators vary significantly, often resulting in unjustly lenient punishments that fail to correspond to the gravity of their offenses.
