Petition
Improve the state of Public Highways and 'Ring Fence' funding for this purpose
Rejected
9 signatures
What the petition asks
Amend the Highways Act 1980, and make the statutory duty on Highway Authorities to maintain public roads more robust, as the current legislation is failing to enable a safe and well repaired public road network. Adequate Ring Fenced funding needs to be provided to achieve the legislative aim.
Our roads are in a poor state of repair with potholes and crumbling road surfaces endemic across the UK. This endangers all road users. E.G. Cycling UK report a cyclist is killed or seriously injured every week due to potholes. Our roads are a national disgrace and unless this issue is addressed further lives will be lost and more people seriously injured.
It is clear that the current legislation is not addressing the issue and there is insufficient funding for our roads. Action is needed now!
