Petition

Protect the copper landline in UK Law as critical infrastructure for Security.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

The analogue copper landline urgently needs to be protected in Law as critical infrastructure for National Security. How else will people communicate during a massive Power Outage or Cyber Attack? People must retain the choice to keep the Landline, which is a Lifeline for elderly/vulnerable people.
Copper Landlines serve as a necessary, reliable and safe alternative to power-grid dependent, energy-hungry VOIP. VOIP will not be available during a power cut, which poses a danger to life. Mobile back-up systems are insecure and battery back-ups are time-limited. Neither is an option for people suffering from the Functional Impairment Electrohypersensitivity. This goes against the Equality Act 2010 and UK Inclusion Policy, which ensures equal access irrespective of disability or other need.
