Phase out and ban the sale of plastic plant pots by 2035

What the petition asks
We urge the Government to ban plastic plant pots by 2035 through a phased out plan. This includes restricting sales, supporting eco-friendly alternatives, running awareness campaigns and enforcing legislation to reduce plastic waste and protect the environment.
Plastic plant pots are widely used but are rarely recycled through standard household wate systems, meaning large quantities end up in landfill or as environmental pollution. Many are made from types of plastic that are difficult to process, and contamination with soil and organic matter further reduces recyclability.
As a result, millions of plastic pots are discarded each year in the UK, contributing unnecessarily to plastic waste and environmental harm.
