What the petition asks
In 2019, over 11,000 scientists worldwide collectively declared a state of climate emergency, with a scientific consensus that it is caused by human activity. We are concerned that our trajectory is preventably heading towards societal breakdown.
In 2023 Oxfam reported that the World’s richest 1% are responsible for around 16% of CO₂ emissions. We believe private jets are incredibly wasteful and we should set a 4-year deadline to ban them.
Transport Environment’s 2021 report found that “private jets are 5 to 14 times more polluting than commercial planes (per passenger), and 50 times more polluting than trains”.
The Times reported in 2023 that “1 in 10 flights taking off from UK are private jets.”
