What the petition asks
An elected politician who does not take the oath cannot sit, speak, vote, or draw a salary.
We want the compulsory oath to be replaced with a choice; we want the alternative to be an oath of allegiance to their constituents rather than to the Crown.

Currently, the political system is biased against Republicans. In a modern democratic society, swearing allegiance to a monarchy should not be compulsory.
