Urgently ban the import and sale of foie gras and fur products in the UK

What the petition asks
Ban the import and sale of foie gras and fur products. The production of foie gras and fur products is already banned due to animal welfare concerns, but imports remain legal.
We believe that the Government should close this loophole which we think undermines current UK animal welfare legislation and align import rules with UK standards.
Foie gras production involves repeatedly force-feeding birds to enlarge their livers beyond natural limits, causing pain and serious health problems. Fur farming confines animals such as foxes and mink in small wire which can lead to stress, injury and poor welfare.
These practices are banned in the UK, yet products are still imported and sold. In our view this undermines UK animal welfare laws and supports practices it has already deemed unacceptable. We call on the Government to act to ensure UK standards are upheld.
