What the petition asks
Make it mandatory for all school kitchen staff to receive training on coeliac disease, gluten-free food safety and cross-contamination, to ensure meals provided to children with coeliac disease are safe and handled correctly.
Children with coeliac disease must follow a strict gluten-free diet, and even small amounts of gluten can cause harm. While general food safety training exists, there is no consistent requirement for specific coeliac training. This can lead to mistakes in food preparation and cross-contamination. Families need confidence that school meals are safe. Mandatory training would improve safety, consistency and understanding.
