Neurodiversity: Fund police training, review of police custody & data collection

What the petition asks
Government to review treatment of neurodiverse individuals in police custody, and to introduce specialised training for police officers to better understand the needs of neurodivergent adults and young people in police custody for the purpose of reducing the risk of harm and preventable deaths.
The review should consider the prevalence of neurodevelopmental conditions in police custody deaths, serious incidents and restraint cases. A review should also consider whether a mandatory recording of neurodevelopmental conditions in custody settings alongside standardised recording of ND conditions in IOPC reporting categories should be mandated. Training for police officers and custody staff should include recognition of associated behaviours in neurodiverse individuals under stress.
