Establish a Royal Commission on Intolerance in UK society

What the petition asks
A Royal Commission on Intolerance would document, seek to understand, and make recommendations to counter increasing intolerance within UK society. It should be non-party-political and broad-based, and should be independent of government.
Intolerance is on the rise in the UK: intolerance of people from different cultures, backgrounds, religions and orientations. There are regular reports of acts of violence committed against individuals and against organisations representing minorities. Tolerance of others helps keep society civilized; the current public discourse is poisoning much of what makes the UK a good place to be. We believe a Royal Commission, independent of party, can help create a consensus on actions to help stop intolerance.
