Petition

Require indefinite leave to remain for all devolved legislators

Rejected 10 signatures

What the petition asks

Introduce legislation requiring all candidates for Scottish Parliament, Senedd, and NI Assembly to hold ILR or British citizenship before election. Direct Home Office to refuse visas/extensions for temporary residents seeking devolved office. Devolved rules cannot override UK immigration powers.
Lawmakers must have a permanent stake in the UK. Westminster requires this for MPs. Temporary visa holders risk mid-term issues, work breaches, and accountability problems. Recent Scottish case shows the loophole. ILR requirement ensures stability and public confidence. Immigrants welcome after achieving settled status

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions about who can vote in elections for the Scottish Parliament, Welsh Parliament and Northern Ireland Assembly are for them and not the UK Government or Parliament.
