What the petition asks

Do not extend the TV licence requirement to households that only use subscription or pay‑per‑view services. Stop any Government proposal or white paper that would make people pay a TV licence when they do not watch live broadcast TV or BBC iPlayer.

The TV licence is £180 and reports suggest the Government may consider extending it to households that only use subscription or pay‑per‑view services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney+ and NOW TV. Many people do not watch BBC channels or iPlayer and already pay for the content they choose. It would be unfair to force them to pay for a service they do not use. The Government should rule out any plan to extend the TV licence to subscription‑only households.
