Petition
Free routine heart screening to detect undiagnosed genetic heart conditions.
Rejected

What the petition asks
Introduce free routine heart screening for everyone between the ages of 16 and 35 to help detect undiagnosed genetic heart conditions before they become fatal. Tests such as ECGs and echocardiograms could identify people at risk early, allowing monitoring, treatment or lifesaving interventions.
Every year, healthy young people die suddenly from hidden cardiac conditions such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, arrhythmogenic cardiomyopathy and other inherited heart diseases. Many have no warning signs or known history until it is too late.
We urge the Government to:
• Introduce a national heart screening programme for young people and adults
• Ensure equal access to screening regardless of symptoms or family history
• Provide clear referral pathways for further testing and specialist care
