Petition

Protect Rivers by Making Water Companies Statutory Planning Consultees

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Water companies must have a legal role within the planning system. This is so that planning authorities can ensure new development is supported by adequate water supply and drainage infrastructure to protect communities, rivers, and the environment.
Too many developments are approved despite existing sewer and wastewater infrastructure already being under pressure. This contributes to sewage pollution, river damage and increased flood risk. Water companies should be formally consulted so infrastructure capacity and environmental impacts are properly considered before planning permission is granted.
