Fund research on the symptoms of Gilbert’s Syndrome

Open for signatures 591 signatures

What the petition asks

Gilbert’s Syndrome is classified as a harmless condition, however we are concerned that some patients are experiencing debilitating symptoms that are dismissed. We want the government to fund more research into this condition and its symptoms, which could inform clinical guidelines.
Gilbert’s Syndrome is a genetic liver condition causing high bilirubin levels. Whilst current NHS guidelines claim it requires no treatment or monitoring, some patients report symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, nausea, abdominal pain and poor appetite. New UK research studying 1.8 million patients found that abdominal pain and fatigue were more common in people with Gilbert’s syndrome compared to control patients up to five years before diagnosis.
