Petition
Do not remove historical figures from UK Banknotes
Rejected
13 signatures
What the petition asks
The Bank of England proposes to replace banknote depictions of major national historical figures with depictions of wildlife - not one of the species being even unique to our country. The government must not allow this act of cultural self-harm, self-hatred & self-erasure to proceed.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Banknotes are the responsibility of the Bank of England, which is independent of the Government and Parliament.
