What the petition asks

Protect equality, inclusion and representation in publicly funded libraries by ensuring local authorities cannot ban displays recognising protected characteristics, including LGBTQ+ communities, during awareness events such as Pride Month.

Public libraries are places of learning, inclusion and community. Reports that Pride Month displays have been removed from Staffordshire libraries have raised concerns about LGBTQ+ visibility in public spaces. We believe libraries should be free to recognise communities protected under the Equality Act 2010. The Government should ensure local authorities cannot restrict displays that promote equality, diversity and inclusion.

Why it was rejected

It was about a matter for a local council or devolved government, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We can’t accept petitions that call for action at a local level.
