What the petition asks
We believe that the proposed social media curfew for 16 & 17 year olds in the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Act 2026 should be urgently reviewed because it will fail miserably to truly protect our young people. We want effective legislation which helps and protect them to be passed.
We oppose a mandatory social media curfew on 16 and 17-year-olds. We feel young people at this age are already trusted with significant rights and responsibilities: they can vote in the UK, they can drive at 17, join the armed forces, consent to sex, work and pay taxes.
We believe a blanket social media curfew is inconsistent with these responsibilities and unfairly restricts personal freedom without treating young people as responsible individuals.
