What the petition asks
Make it illegal for political parties to punish MPs for voting in line with their constituents
The whipping system is undemocratic. MPs are elected by constituents, not parties. We ask the Government to legislate that:
-It becomes illegal for any party to remove the whip, deselect, or punish an MP who votes in line with the clearly expressed views of a majority of their constituents (e.g. local poll or petition signed by 10% of voters).
-Every MP must publicly record before each vote how their decision relates to their constituents’ interests.
It’s time to put voters before party bosses.

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We don't quiet know what you specifically want to happen: are there to be local polls or petitions in a constituency only after an MP is disciplined? what does punish mean in this context (other than deselect or remove the whip)?
