Legally require ministers to seek expert advice from the UN Human Rights Office

What the petition asks
Legally require ministers to seek and consider advice from relevant human rights experts at the UN Human Rights Office before introducing significant counter-terrorism measures, expanding counter-terrorism powers, or proscribing organisations under UK law.
We believe counter-terrorism powers should protect the public from real threats while respecting human rights, peaceful protest and freedom of expression. We call for stronger safeguards, published human rights assessments, and a legal requirement for ministers to seek and consider UN human rights expert advice before major counter-terrorism decisions are made.
