Introduce statutory standardised simplified energy tariffs & automatic renewals

What the petition asks
We call on the Government to legislate for a standardised simplified tariff offer which each supplier put forward to their customers, and making renewals automatic to the supplier’s cheapest equivalent deal (with easy opt-out), and standardising bills to clearly show the total yearly cost.
We believe that the energy market confuses millions of households. Complex tariffs, standing charges, and renewal deals make bills hard to understand and comparisons difficult. We think this leads to many people overpaying by staying on expensive default tariffs. In our view, requiring the system to be simpler with fewer tariffs, automatic renewals to the cheapest equivalent (easy opt-out), and clear annual cost displays on bills would reduce confusion, prevent bill shocks, increase competition, and help everyone manage costs better.
