What the petition asks
Require Prime Ministers to complete a full parliamentary term, or serve four years in office, whichever is the longer, before becoming eligible for full state-funded benefits and allowances associated with being a former Prime Minister.
Recent years have seen several Prime Ministers leave office after short periods. We believe the full suite of state-funded benefits for ex-Prime Ministers should only be available to those who complete a full parliamentary term or serve at least four years, whichever is the longer. We believe this would improve accountability, encourage stability and ensure fair value for taxpayers: benefits should reflect service to the country and be subject to greater transparency. Long service should be rewarded, not short tenure.
