'Right to know' disclosure scheme for repeat romance fraudsters

What the petition asks

We call on the government to introduce a disclosure scheme, similar to Clare's Law, allowing individuals to ask the police if a romantic partner has previous convictions for fraud, theft or financial exploitation. Serial romance fraudsters inflict devastating financial and emotional ruin.

Serial romance fraudsters routinely target multiple victims, using deception to inflict devastating financial and emotional ruin. Currently Clare's Law covers domestic abuse and economic control but pure fraud convictions remain hidden from new partners. This means victims who suspect a partner is a convicted scammer cannot get information from the police. Introducing a 'RIGHT TO ASK' for a financial fraud convictions will protect people and stop scammers finding new victims.
