What the petition asks
Mandate deaf awareness training for all employees in all businesses to allow accessibility for deaf individuals. Create an inclusive, diverse space and bridge the gap with the deaf community and the hearing world. Understanding deaf culture more could allow for better communication.
We want to break down the current barriers we see across all businesses. We feel there is currently a lack of awareness and understanding and no real consideration around how to communicate to deaf individuals.
In retail and hospitality for instance, there are assumptions that someone can hear, which can lead to members of the deaf community facing barriers relating to communication. This can make deaf individuals feel excluded from society and alienated. A lack of inclusivity affects individuals in many ways.
