Fund modern signalling to reduce delays on the District line's Wimbledon branch

What the petition asks

We call on the Government — as owner of South Western Railway (SWR), and through its capital funding settlement for London's railways — to fund modern signalling on the East Putney to Wimbledon line, and to equip SWR's trains to run on it, so this long-neglected branch can finally be upgraded.

While the central District line is being modernised, the East Putney to Wimbledon branch was dropped from the programme and still runs on signalling dating back to the 1980s, with no funded plan to replace it. Modern signalling also needs the trains that share this track — run by South Western Railway, publicly owned since 2025 — to be equipped for it. With both the funding and SWR now in public hands, only the Government can act. It would reduce the daily delays and crowding passengers face.
