Require a Commons confidence vote within 14 days of a new PM taking office

What the petition asks
Amend House of Commons Standing Orders to require the Government to table a formal confidence motion within 14 days whenever a new Prime Minister takes office between general elections, and require the House to debate and vote on it.
When a Prime Minister changes between general elections, the Government may continue without the House of Commons being required to hold an explicit vote confirming that it retains confidence under its new leader.
We believe a mandatory vote within 14 days would provide a clear, transparent and consistent test of parliamentary support, strengthen democratic accountability, and apply equally to every political party and future Government.
