Introduce professional standards for MPs to enforce competence & accountability

What the petition asks
Professionalise the role of MPs by ending self-regulation. We demand an IPSA-style independent framework to enforce a mandatory 5-year competence baseline for all election candidates, a strict ban on conflicting paid second jobs, and criminal liability for deliberate public deception.
Align MPs with professionals like Engineers & Doctors. We demand an independent IPSA framework:
1. Criminal Liability:End the MP exemption in the Public Office (Accountability) Bill. Public deception must be a crime prosecuted in standard courts.
2. Competence & Single Job: Candidates must have 5 years of senior professional/civic leadership with legal/financial liability. Ban second jobs.
3. Verification: The Electoral Commission must validate winning MPs experience claims, prosecuting fraud.

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Being an MP is elected position, and it is up to the constituents to elect whomever they think is suitable for the role.
