Do not include partner’s income when applying for means-tested benefits

What the petition asks
The moment a disabled person falls in love, moves in or marries their partner, their welfare support can be reduced or completely stopped. This can place an unfair financial burden on households and destroy relationships & lives.
We call on DWP to end their policy of counting a partner’s income against a claimant’s benefits claim. The DWP’s current policy can leave some disabled people with no income and solely reliant on their employed partner. This then can create barriers to qualify of life, relationship and financial dependence on a partner which may result in relationships falling apart or a partner having to leave work due to costs.
