Petition

Stop the expansion of Leicester City Council boundary into surrounding villages

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

I support simplifying local government, but not expanding Leicester City Council’s boundary into surrounding villages. Rural communities should stay within a county‑based unitary, protecting local identity, green spaces, representation and services.
Leicester and Leicestershire local government can be streamlined without expanding the city boundary into surrounding villages. Rural communities risk losing identity, representation and tailored services if moved into an urban authority. This boundary change is unnecessary and not supported by residents impacted in the county, with consultation responses strongly opposing expansion.

If you value strong local voices and keeping village priorities central, please support this petition.

Why it was rejected

It was about a matter for a local council or devolved government, not the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept petitions that call for action at a local level.

Whilst the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government holds the statutory responsibility for this decision, the petition calls for action relating to a particular part of the country.
