What the petition asks
We call on the UK Government to introduce legislation establishing a permanent, cross-party Commission for Long-Term National Planning.
It should develop and monitor 10–20-year national frameworks, starting with energy, housing and education, and report annually to Parliament on progress.
It should develop and monitor 10–20-year national frameworks, starting with energy, housing and education, and report annually to Parliament on progress.
Repeated changes in our political leadership and policy direction have weakened confidence in our economy, institutions and our future. Energy, housing and education require consistent planning and investment over many years, yet are too often shaped by short-term political priorities. The Commission should agree on the broad outcomes the country needs to achieve, while leaving elected governments free to decide how to deliver them.
