What the petition asks
Raise the upper limit for Section 75 protection under the Consumer Credit Act 1974 from £30,000 to at least £96,000, so it reflects the same real-terms value it had when last set in 1985, and index it to inflation going forward so it never falls behind again.
S75 makes your credit card company jointly liable with a retailer if goods or services you paid for go wrong, are never delivered, or are misrepresented. It's one of the strongest consumer protections in UK law, and it costs the taxpayer nothing.
The upper limit was set at £30k in 1985 and has not been increased since. That should be £96k today. Many big purchases have risen past the old ceiling leaving consumers exposed on exactly the kind of large purchases this law was designed to protect.
