What the petition asks
We want the Government to remove the 60% effective tax rate created by the tapered withdrawal of the Personal Allowance for people earning between £100,000 and £125,140. We think this should be replaced with a clear, fair tax band, such as a 45% rate on income over £100,000.
We believe that the current system is unfair and creates a hidden penalty for professionals who increase their earnings. In our view, many people in this bracket are not wealthy, yet face one of the highest marginal tax rates in the UK, discouraging career progression and additional work.
Higher earners already contribute significantly more in tax. We think the taper adds an excessive burden that punishes ambition and undermines fair taxation, and reform is needed so people are rewarded, not penalised, for progressing in their careers.
