Election in Belarus
The motion
That the Parliament expresses concern that international observers have criticised the election process in Belarus; notes that the opposition suffered “a pattern of intimidation”; further notes that the President, Mr Lukashenko, has said that his police would “wring the necks” of anyone caught protesting; notes the lack of freedom of expression afforded to writers in Belarus, and supports EU proposals for targeted sanctions against Belarus.
