Third Annual Book Week Scotland

That the Parliament notes that 24 to 30 November 2014 is the third annual Book Week Scotland; welcomes the return of this event, which it believes inspires reading among all age groups; recognises the role of both the Scottish Book Trust and the Scottish Library and Information Council, whose continued support has, it considers, been invaluable; commends the success of last year’s event, which gave away three free books to all of Scotland's primary 1 pupils, 300,000 books in all, encouraged additional reading time in schools and provided teachers with additional materials to inspire students to read in their own time; recognises the importance of the Facebook literary quiz created in conjunction with last year’s event, which received 1.15 million hits and aided in the national and international awareness of the event through social media, and wishes Book Week Scotland continued success this year and in the future.
