Motion · S4M-14553 · 20 Oct 2015
Closure of Lanarkshire Steel Works
The motion
That the Parliament notes with concern the announcement by Tata Steel that it is to mothball its two plants in Lanarkshire with the potential loss of 270 jobs; believes that this will effectively end large-scale steel manufacturing in Scotland and Lanarkshire’s long association with the steel industry, and calls on the Scottish Government to work with trade unions and the local authorities to support what it sees as the highly-skilled workforce by finding another viable use for the plants or providing appropriate training to move the workers into new, reliable and sustainable employment.
