Scrapping Air Passenger Duty

That the Parliament notes with concern the findings of research conducted by Transport Justice for Scotland, which found that scrapping air passenger duty (APD) on airline tickets will benefit better-off people; understands that a typical flyer from Glasgow Airport earns £43,000 a year and that the rate of higher income travellers from the city is 35% compared with 11.5% from the lowest income group; further understands that if APD is abolished, the highest earners would save £73 a year while the poorest would save only £4.50 a year, and believes that the cash raised from APD should be used to help first-time buyers get a home instead.
