Cuts to Wildlife Police Unit
The motion
As an amendment to motion S4M-15793 in the name of Neil Findlay (Cuts to Wildlife Police Unit), leave out from first “notes” to end and insert “welcomes the announcement that that the UK Government is extending its funding for the National Wildlife Crime Unit (NWCU), which is based in Livingston; further welcomes what it sees as the work of Liberal Democrat MPs and MSPs in asserting pressure on the UK Government to extend that funding; understands that over 14,000 people have signed a petition calling for the unit to be saved; notes what it considers the sterling work that the NWCU does in preventing and prosecuting wildlife crime such as badger baiting and the killing of birds of prey; further notes with regret the increase of wildlife crime in Scotland, and considers the continuous funding for the unit a positive step in tackling this type of crime".
