Childhood Obesity, a Plan for Action
The motion
That the Parliament notes the recent publication of the UK Government’s plan to reduce childhood obesity, Childhood obesity: A plan for action; recognises that obesity is a health problem in Scotland and notes concern at the huge pressure that this will exert on Scotland’s health service; expresses disappointment that the plan has not taken steps to address measures that would protect children across the UK, including Scotland, from junk food marketing before the 9pm watershed; understands that a wide range of health experts have condemned the plan as a missed opportunity; believes that key organisations, including Cancer Research UK and Obesity Action Scotland, are urging the Scottish Government to go further in its forthcoming diet and obesity strategy, and supports them in this.
