International Day of Co-operatives
The motion
That the Parliament notes that the International Day of Co-operatives 2018 will be marked on 7 July; acknowledges that it will have the theme, sustainable societies through co-operation; recognises that there are over 1.2 billion co-operative members across the world; believes that co-operative values and principles contribute to sustainable growth and that, as people-centred enterprises with social goals, co-operatives create jobs, livelihoods and income generation; further believes that they contribute to social equity and justice, and, as democratic institutions that are controlled by their members, considers that they play a leading role in society and across communities.
